The B.V.F.D. had a Smelt & Bullhead fry Saturday night. Now, I had never had the chance to try either of these two, so it was an interesting experience. If you (like me) don't know what Smelt is..let me describe it. Take a bunch of minnow sized fish (avg. 2-3 inches long), throw them in some batter, throw em in the fryer, grab em by the tail and eat. Those were actually pretty tasty.
The bullheads though...although I never really pictured ANYONE eating them, were my favorite. Same story. Take a bullhead, gut it, but leave the head, tail, etc....batter, fry, eat. These were my favorite, and actually very delicious. Turns out, Ava loved it as well. She even snuck a smelt while we weren't looking (after we cut her off from the bullhead). She was literally begging for more. Anyway, here's some pictures:
A Fresh plate of bullheads...DIG IN!
Jocelyn helps Ava cool down her bullhead that is fresh out the fryer...
Justin can't seem to take a normal picture. You can see some of the tasty smelt on the plates in this picture too. Don't they look delicious?
Ava feeding her face with Bullhead...her new favorite dinner.
It was very good, and if you ever get the chance, it's worth the experience. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Nice pics. Both of those fish sound nasty to eat, but then again, I am not much of a fish guy to begin with. Catch and release!
Oh yeah? Cause I've been fishing with you many times. To catch and release, that would imply you could catch a fish. I think what you practice is something more along the lines of "Cast and Tangle"
Just because you managed to catch a Jim Bass, does not make you great fisherman. You don't see me running my mouth about the 20 foot dock I caught, now do you.
Well, considering that was ONE time, pretty much the only other thing you have ever caught is your own line. I've never seen more birds nest messes of line than when fishing with you. I tell you what, next time we go fishing, I'll cast for you...you wait for a bite...then hand it to me to reel it in...etc. etc. etc. Maybe you'll have more luck that way. :)
I think we should have a fish off. You pick the place, I'll catch the fish......actually I don't care. I am happy with sitting around watching Steve catch fish and drinking beer. Because I love beer.
Notice how he says "Steve catch fish"..cause he knows. (Disclaimer: I in no way claim to have the skills/ability to catch Walleye.)
Lets be fair, none of us can catch Walleye. Just need to stick with bass, pan fish, and northerns. I will stick with catching trees and docks.
